8 transported following fire at Richland Township nursing home

911 officials in Cambria County say eight people were transported to Conemaugh Hospital Tuesday night following a fire at Richland Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

Authorities say the fire broke out just before 8 p.m. at the nursing care facility, which is located along the 300 block of Vo Tech Drive in Richland Township.

Richland Fire Chief Wes Myers says the fire started near a HVAC unit and crews were able to contain the blaze to a singular room, which sustained smoke damage.

Richland fire officials say eight people (6 staff members and two residents) were transported to the hospital as a precaution but "no significant injuries were reported."

Officials say the facility's staff did a great job of assisting in evacuating the residents from the building.

Authorities say eight area fire and EMS crews responded to the blaze, including Richland, Windber and Scalp Level fire departments.

Officials say crews were on scene for approximately two hours and none of the residents were displaced by the blaze.
